He’s having the worst day of his life … over, and over …|Feb. 11, 1993|United States|101 Min.|PG
Genre: Comedy;Drama;Fantasy;Romance
Description: On February 1, TV weatherman Phil Connors assures viewers in Pittsburgh that an approaching blizzard will bypass Western Pennsylvania. Accompanied by his producer, Rita Hanson, and cameraman, Larry, he heads to Punxsutawney to cover the annual Groundhog Day event. Phil openly expresses his disdain for the assignment, the town, and its residents, confident that he will soon leave his current job for a better opportunity.
On February 2, Phil wakes up at the Cherry Tree Inn to the sound of Sonny & Cher’s “I Got You Babe” on the clock radio. He delivers a lackluster report on Punxsutawney Phil and the festivities. Contrary to his prediction, the blizzard hits the area, trapping him in the town despite his attempts to leave.
The next morning, Phil wakes up again to the same song and DJ chatter, realizing that he is reliving February 2. Initially thinking it’s déjà vu, he soon discovers he is stuck in a time loop. He confides in Rita, who recommends he see a neurologist and later a psychologist, but neither can explain his predicament. After a night of drinking with locals and a high-speed police chase, Phil is arrested. The following morning, he awakens again at the Cherry Tree Inn, still trapped in the loop.
