Description: “Goodnight Mommy” is a 2014 Austrian psychological horror film written and directed by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala. Originally titled “Ich seh, Ich seh” (translated as “I see, I see”), it was Austria’s submission for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards, though it didn’t receive a nomination. An American remake of the film, starring Naomi Watts, is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on September 16, 2022.
The story follows a woman who returns home to her two nine-year-old identical twin sons, Elias and Lukas, after undergoing facial surgery. Her head is wrapped in bandages, revealing only her eyes and mouth, which unsettles the boys. Her behavior becomes increasingly strange—she ignores Lukas, focuses only on Elias, and enforces strict rules, such as keeping the blinds closed, maintaining silence indoors, and restricting outdoor play to the garden.
As her actions grow more cruel and uncharacteristic, the twins begin to suspect that the person under the bandages might not be their real mother. Their suspicions deepen when they discover an old photograph of their mother with an unknown woman who resembles her closely.
This chilling tale explores themes of identity, trust, and psychological tension, making it a gripping horror experience.
