Description: In 1955, young Henry Hill becomes fascinated by the criminal world and the Mafia’s influence in his Italian-American neighborhood in Brooklyn. He starts working for Paul “Paulie” Cicero, a local gang leader, and his associates: James “Jimmy” Conway, an Irish-American gangster, and Tommy DeVito, a fellow delinquent. Henry begins as a fence for Jimmy, eventually progressing to more serious crimes. During the 1960s, the trio spends their nights at the Copacabana nightclub, indulging in a lavish lifestyle. Henry meets and marries Karen Friedman, a Jewish woman who is initially uneasy about his criminal activities but is eventually drawn to his glamorous life despite her parents’ objections.
In 1970, tensions escalate when Tommy and Jimmy brutally murder Billy Batts, a member of the Gambino crime family, after a heated altercation. Knowing the consequences of killing a “made man,” they attempt to cover up the crime by burying the body. However, when the burial site is threatened by development, they are forced to move the remains.
By 1974, Henry’s personal life becomes strained as Karen confronts his mistress, Janice, and even threatens him with a gun. Although Henry moves in with Janice, Paulie pressures him to reconcile with Karen. Shortly after, Henry and Jimmy are arrested and sentenced to ten years in prison due to a tip from an FBI informant. To support his family, Henry starts smuggling drugs into prison and selling them to fellow inmates. After his parole in 1978, Henry expands his cocaine business, defying Paulie’s wishes and involving Jimmy and Tommy in the operation.
