Description: Filmmakers craft movies to entertain or offer audiences new perspectives on life. Some films possess such power that they can truly transform one’s worldview. *Gone Kesh* is a modest attempt at creating a motivational film.
Set in the charming town of Siliguri, West Bengal, the story unfolds in a non-linear fashion, focusing on Enakshi Dasgupta (playeр by Shweta Tripathi), the only daughter of middle-class parents whose primary goal is to see her married. However, Enakshi faces a significant challenge: she suffers from alopecia, an autoimmune disorder that often leads to hair loss.
During her school days, Enakshi struggles to smile as her classmates mock the patches on her scalp. After exhausting various remedies, she turns to wearing a wig to conceal her baldness. Despite this, her self-confidence remains low, and she abandons her passion for dancing, fearing exposure as “takli” (bald).
One day, she discovers a dance competition at the mall where she works as a salesgirl. However, as a mall employee, she is ineligible to participate. Her desire to compete is so intense that she quits her job to pursue it. The plot takes a predictable turn, incorporating a romantic subplot involving her shy college mate Sujoy (Jitendra Kumar), who struggles to express his feelings.
The narrative unfolds at a slow pace, with moments of tedious exposition. Nevertheless, the film’s charm lies in the simplicity and authenticity of the performances. Humorous dialogues infused with filmy references add to its appeal.
Shweta Tripathi delivers a compelling portrayal of her character, embodying the girl-next-door persona while grappling with her internal struggles. Her anger, frustration, and depression are vividly conveyed, making *Gone Kesh* an emotionally resonant experience.
