In *Gone in 60 Seconds* (2000), Randall “Memphis” Raines, a retired legendary car thief, is pulled back into his old life to save his younger brother Kip. Kip, a rookie car thief, and his crew are tasked with stealing fifty high-end vehicles for Raymond Calitri, a dangerous British crime boss operating in Long Beach, California. However, after Kip’s team botches the theft of a Porsche 996, they attract the attention of detectives Castlebeck and Drycoff, who seize the stolen cars and launch an investigation.
When Calitri kidnaps Kip and threatens to kill him if the cars aren’t delivered within 72 hours, Memphis steps in to complete the mission. He reunites with his mentor Otto Halliwell and assembles a skilled crew, including former associates Donny Astricky, Sphinx, and Sara “Sway” Wayland. Kip and his team also join the effort to locate and steal the cars, each assigned a code name. Memphis reserves his most personal theft—a 1967 Ford Shelby GT500 nicknamed “Eleanor”—for last, as it holds a special significance for him.
As the crew tracks down the vehicles, they face numerous challenges, including a rival gang and the police closing in on their operation. During their reconnaissance, Memphis and Kip narrowly escape an ambush, heightening the stakes. Meanwhile, detectives Castlebeck and Drycoff discover Kip’s attempt to bribe a Mercedes dealership employee for transponder keys, leading them to stake out the targeted vehicles.
In a risky twist, one of Kip’s crew members impulsively steals a Cadillac Eldorado not on the list, only to find heroin hidden in its trunk. The crew must hastily dispose of the drugs before Castlebeck catches on. Despite the obstacles, the team executes their plan, stealing all fifty cars in a single night and delivering them to Calitri’s associate, Atley Jackson, at the docks.
