Description: In the year 180, the Roman Empire descends into turmoil following the death of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Maximus, a highly skilled and loyal general of the Roman army and a close advisor to the emperor, faces execution after the scheming son of Marcus, Commodus, seizes the throne. Managing to escape, Maximus is later captured by slave traders.
