Guess who’s coming to save the world again?|Jun. 16, 1989|United States|108 Min.|PG
Genre: Comedy;Fantasy
Description: Five years after saving New York City from the shape-shifting god Gozer, the Ghostbusters face lawsuits for property damage and are banned from investigating the supernatural. This forces them to shut down their business. Ray Stantz now runs an occult bookstore and works as a children’s entertainer alongside Winston Zeddemore. Egon Spengler conducts experiments on human emotions in a lab, while Peter Venkman hosts a TV talk show about psychics.
Meanwhile, Dana Barrett, Peter’s ex-girlfriend, has a baby named Oscar and works as an art museum cleaner. She seeks the Ghostbusters’ help after Oscar’s stroller mysteriously rolls into a busy intersection. At the museum, a painting of Vigo the Carpathian, a 16th-century tyrant and sorcerer, comes to life. Vigo manipulates Dana’s boss, Janosz Poha, to abduct a child for his plan to escape the painting and conquer the world. Janosz chooses Oscar, infatuated with Dana.
As the Ghostbusters investigate, they uncover a river of slime beneath the city in the abandoned Beach Pneumatic Transit system. During their excavation, Ray accidentally causes a citywide blackout, leading to their arrest. In court, a slime sample reacts to the judge’s anger, summoning ghosts of two brothers he had sentenced to death. The Ghostbusters capture the ghosts, earning their freedom and the right to resume their supernatural investigations.
