Description: Ghost in the Shell 2015 Movie: A new installment in the Ghost in the Shell series was announced on September 5, 2014, on the official Japanese website for Ghost in the Shell: Arise. The film, described as a further evolution of the series, was set for release in 2015. On January 8, 2015, a teaser trailer revealed a redesigned Major, aligning her appearance more closely with the older films. The production team included Kazuya Nomura as director, Kazuchika Kise as character designer, Toru Okubo as animation director, Tow Ubukata as screenwriter, and Cornelius as composer. The film was tentatively scheduled for an early summer 2015 release in Japanese theaters.
On March 20, an updated teaser trailer showcased thirty seconds of footage, confirming the character designs would resemble the Arise series rather than other iterations. The trailer also announced the Japanese premiere date as June 20, 2015. The main theme, “Mada Ugoku” by Maaya Sakamoto and Cornelius, was revealed on March 25, alongside another track titled “Anata o Tamotsu Mono.” Both tracks were released on a collectible CD on June 17, 2015. NAOTO of Sandaime J Soul Brothers made his voice acting debut as Osamu Fujimoto, a new character and the son of the fictional Japanese Prime Minister.
A full trailer released on May 29, 2015, featured scenes from the film, including returning characters from Arise and references to the Fire Starter hacker. A twelve-minute preview was made available on June 9 to promote the film before its Japanese premiere. Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie was officially released in Japanese theaters on June 20, 2015. Funimation announced at Otakon 2015 that the film would be localized for Western audiences under the title Ghost in the Shell: The Movie, later changed to Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie.
