Description: “Ghatak” is a 2006 Indian Bengali costume drama film directed by Swapan Saha, released on January 1, 2006. The story revolves around Bijoy, a simple and innocent man played by Jeet, who arrives in Kolkata with his brother. There, he meets Puja, portrayed by Koyel Mallick, who offers them shelter. With Puja’s assistance, Bijoy enrolls his brother in her school. Meanwhile, two antisocial figures, Bablu Koley (Shankar Chakroborty) and Bindu Masi (Anamika Saha), engage in a fierce competition for votes in an election. Bijoy Samanta (Rajatava Dutta) supports Bablu in his campaign.
Puja’s father, Sattabroto Roy (Bodhisatto Majumdar), threatens Bindu Masi, leading to his murder. Bijoy’s brother, Raju, becomes the sole witness to the crime. Despite Puja’s advice to leave the area, Bijoy refuses. As tensions rise, Bindu Masi and Bablu Koley attempt to kidnap Raju, resulting in his death. Munna, involved in the plot, is arrested by Ranabir Roy (Tapas Pal), but Bindu secures his release, leading to Ranabir’s suspension.
Bijoy takes matters into his own hands, killing Munna and later marrying Puja. He eventually avenges his brother’s death by killing Bablu Koley. Bindu Masi tries to kill Puja, but Bijoy saves her. When Binoy reveals the truth to the press, Bindu Masi kills him. In a final confrontation, Bindu attempts to kill Bijoy, but he ultimately defeats her. The film captures the struggles of justice, revenge, and survival in a dramatic narrative.
