Description: The 2015 comedy film “Get Hard” follows the story of James King, portrayed by Will Ferrell, a wealthy hedge fund manager at Barrow Funds. Engaged to Alissa, his boss Martin Barrow’s daughter, James appears to have it all. However, his life takes a drastic turn when he is arrested by the FBI during his engagement party for fraud and embezzlement. Despite his lawyer urging him to plead guilty for a shorter sentence, James refuses, believing he will be proven innocent. Unfortunately, he is found guilty and sentenced to ten years at San Quentin State Prison, with 30 days to prepare. To make matters worse, Alissa leaves him after he suggests fleeing the country together.
Desperate to survive in prison, James seeks help from Darnell Lewis, played by Kevin Hart, who runs a car wash in James’ workplace parking lot. Mistakenly assuming Darnell has been to prison because of his race, James begs him to toughen him up for incarceration. Darnell, who has no prison experience, agrees to the task in exchange for $30,000, seeing it as a chance to improve his family’s life and relocate his daughter to a better school.
Darnell’s attempts to train James, including pepper-spraying him and simulating prison scenarios, prove unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Martin Barrow, the real criminal behind the fraud, becomes paranoid that James is onto him and hires a hitman to monitor him. As the training fails, Darnell suggests alternative preparations, such as teaching James how to perform oral sex to survive in prison. The film explores their comedic and chaotic journey as James prepares for his impending incarceration.
