Description: Galaxy Quest, released in 1999, is a science fiction comedy film that follows the lives of the cast of a 1980s space-adventure TV series called *Galaxy Quest*. The actors, now past their prime, spend their days attending fan conventions and making promotional appearances. Jason Nesmith, the egotistical former star of the show, enjoys the attention, while his co-stars—Gwen, Alexander, Fred, and Tommy—feel resentment toward him and their current career stagnation.
At a convention, Jason is approached by a group of aliens known as Thermians, led by Mathesar, who seek his assistance. Jason assumes they want him for a promotional event and agrees. The next morning, the Thermians pick him up, but Jason, hungover and confused, doesn’t realize they are actual aliens. He finds himself aboard a fully functional replica of the NSEA Protector, the spaceship from *Galaxy Quest*, mistaking it for a film set.
Jason, believing he is acting, confronts the alien warlord Sarris, who demands the “Omega 13,” a mysterious superweapon referenced in the show. Issuing casual commands, Jason temporarily defeats Sarris and is returned to Earth. Upon realizing the experience was real, Jason tries to convince his co-stars, but they dismiss his claims.
When a Thermian named Laliari reappears and asks for Jason’s help again, the cast reluctantly joins him, thinking it’s a paid job. They are accompanied by their handler, Guy, who once played a minor character in the series. Once aboard the Protector, they discover that the innocent Thermians believe *Galaxy Quest* episodes are authentic historical records. Inspired by the show’s values, the Thermians have built their society around it and created a functioning replica of the Protector.
The story takes a turn when Sarris attacks the ship again, and the crew narrowly escapes through a dangerous magnetic minefield. *Galaxy Quest* is a humorous exploration of fandom, heroism, and the blurred line between fiction and reality.
