Description: The 2005 comedy film *Fun with Dick and Jane* follows the story of Dick Harper, played by Jim Carrey, who is promoted to Vice President of Communications at the media corporation Globodyne in 2000. Encouraged by his new position, Dick convinces his wife Jane, portrayed by Téa Leoni, to leave her job as a travel agent to spend more time with their son Billy, as his salary would suffice to support their family. However, on his very first day, during a television interview, Dick discovers that the CEO of Globodyne has secretly sold most of his shares, leading to the company’s collapse. The stocks plummet to zero, leaving employees, including Dick, jobless and stripped of their savings and pensions.
When Dick attempts to confront the CEO, Jack McCallister, played by Alec Baldwin, he escapes in the company’s helicopter. Dick breaks the news to his family, assuring them that he will find another job. However, the economic downturn caused by Globodyne’s downfall makes it nearly impossible for him to secure a comparable position. To make matters worse, the TV interview damages his reputation, leaving him unemployable. Jane discovers that their savings, investments, and pension were tied to the now-worthless Globodyne stock, leaving the family with no assets and at risk of losing their home.
Desperate to make ends meet, Dick and Jane take on low-paying jobs, but they struggle to keep them. After their utilities are cut off, they are forced to sell their belongings and take on informal work to survive. This leads to Dick being wrongfully arrested, deported, and later re-entering the country illegally. Facing eviction and fed up with their situation, Dick turns to crime and convinces Jane to join him. After a series of misadventures, they successfully rob a head shop, marking the beginning of their unconventional path to survival.
