Description: In Amestris, young brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric live in the rural town of Resembool with their mother Trisha. From an early age, they begin self-studying alchemy. When their mother passes away from illness, the brothers attempt the forbidden act of Human Transmutation to bring her back. However, the ritual fails, and they suffer severe consequences. Edward loses his left leg, while Alphonse’s soul is pulled into the Gate of Truth. To save his brother, Edward sacrifices his right arm to bind Alphonse’s soul to a suit of armor using a blood seal. Later, Edward replaces his missing limbs with automail prosthetics. Accepting an invitation from Colonel Roy Mustang, Edward joins the military to research ways to restore Alphonse’s body. After becoming a State Alchemist with the title “Fullmetal Alchemist,” Edward, accompanied by their childhood friend and automail mechanic Winry Rockbell, embarks on a quest to find the philosopher’s stone, a legendary artifact that could heal their bodies.
Years later, Edward and Alphonse investigate a cult leader named Father Cornello in Liore, suspecting he possesses a philosopher’s stone. Colonel Mustang intervenes, and Edward exposes Cornello’s stone as a fake. The brothers then stay with Major Maes Hughes and his pregnant wife in East City, where they meet Shou Tucker, a bio-alchemy expert who earned his State Alchemist title by creating a talking chimera. They befriend Tucker’s daughter Nina and their dog Alexander while Tucker advises Edward to track down Dr. Tim Marcoh, who once created a philosopher’s stone before disappearing. Alphonse remains with Tucker, who makes him question his existence, while Edward and Winry search for Marcoh.
Although they find Marcoh murdered by Lust, Cornello’s benefactor, Edward retrieves the doctor’s notes and asks Hughes to decode them. Meanwhile, Hughes uncovers a startling revelation during his investigation but is killed by Envy, Lust’s associate, who frames Mustang for the murder.
