The story is set in 1888 and follows Mary Kelly and a group of London prostitutes enduring relentless hardships. Shortly after, one of the women is brutally murdered, and it becomes evident that a serial killer, known as Jack the Ripper, is targeting the prostitutes one by one, killing and mutilating them in a horrific manner.
The murders attract the attention of Inspector Frederick Abberline of the Whitechapel Police, a brilliant but troubled man whose work is often aided by his psychic visions. Still grieving the loss of his wife two years prior, Abberline is supported by his colleague, Sergeant Peter Godley, who struggles to understand his unconventional theories. Abberline deduces that the killer is highly educated, with precise knowledge of human anatomy, as evidenced by the surgical precision of the murders.
Ann is later found in a workhouse, having been lobotomized under the guise of her being violent and insane, a move likely orchestrated to silence her.
As the investigation progresses, Abberline consults Sir William Gull, a physician to the Royal Family, who provides medical insights. During their meeting, it is revealed that Abberline is battling an opium addiction. Gull’s findings, combined with obstruction from Abberline’s superiors, point to a larger, more sinister conspiracy than initially thought.
The case becomes deeply personal for Abberline as he grows closer to Mary, with whom he develops a romantic connection. From Hell is a chilling tale of mystery, conspiracy, and the hunt for one of history’s most infamous killers.
