Description: Laura Woodson, a popular college student with over 800 Facebook friends, lives with her roommates Olivia Mathison, Isabelle, and Isabelle’s boyfriend Gustavo Garcia. She is close to her friend Kobe and dating Tyler McCormick. Laura receives a friend request from Marina Mills, a classmate with no friends. Initially, Laura accepts and spends time with her but grows uneasy due to Marina’s obsessive behavior and disturbing online posts. When Marina expresses a desire to attend Laura’s birthday dinner, Laura lies, claiming it’s just a date with Tyler. Discovering the truth through photos on Facebook, Marina confronts Laura the next day, leading to an argument. During the confrontation, Laura unintentionally exposes Marina’s bald spot, a result of her hair-pulling disorder. Laura then unfriends Marina online.
The following day, Marina’s suicide is announced. Laura feels guilt-stricken but attempts to move on. However, Marina’s presence lingers as a video of her burning a sketch of Laura before hanging herself appears on Laura’s Facebook page. Despite her efforts, Laura cannot remove the video or delete her account. Marina’s torment continues as she adds Gustavo as a friend, leading to his violent encounter with a demonic entity. Isabelle finds him severely injured, and a video of Gustavo’s apparent suicide is uploaded to Laura’s page, leaving her powerless to stop it.
As Laura’s friends and family begin to turn against her, she and Kobe investigate Marina’s past. They break into Marina’s dorm room and discover an old photograph from an orphanage. Visiting the orphanage, Laura learns Marina’s real last name is Nedifar and uncovers the childhood torment she endured. Laura must now confront the terrifying consequences of Marina’s actions and her own role in the unfolding events.
