**Storyline:**
Amy, a new night shift nurse, begins her role at the soon-to-be-closed Mercy Falls Children’s Hospital. As she interacts with the young patients, she starts to suspect that the “Mechanical Girl” the children fear might be more than just a figment of their imagination. Strange occurrences plague the hospital—elevators malfunction, children’s bones break inexplicably, and a hospital worker is thrown out of a window for disturbing marked bricks. Amy uncovers a malevolent ghost determined to prevent the children from leaving the premises.
After the disappointing release of *Darkness*, expectations for director Jaume Balagueró’s *Fragile* were low, especially with Calista Flockhart cast as the lead. Surprisingly, Flockhart delivers a solid performance, portraying her character’s troubled past with authenticity. The film avoids the over-editing issues of *Darkness* and manages to create a compelling atmosphere.
While *Fragile* doesn’t reach the heights of *The Others*, it offers an engaging 97-minute experience. The use of sound effectively builds tension, though the script occasionally falls short. The concept of a ghost harming hospitalized children is unsettling and keeps viewers on edge. The film excels in its atmospheric buildup and strong first half, making it a worthwhile watch for fans of ghost stories.
