**Plot Summary:**
Ray is driving home with his wife, Joanne, and their daughter, Peri, after spending Thanksgiving with Joanne’s parents. Tensions rise as Ray and Joanne argue about their strained relationship. During the journey, Peri insists on using the restroom, prompting them to stop at a gas station. After returning to the car, Peri realizes she has lost her compact mirror. Joanne goes back to check the restroom, while Ray searches the back seat. While distracted, Peri is threatened by a stray dog and steps backward toward an open pit. Ray attempts to scare the dog by throwing a rock, but this inadvertently causes Peri to fall into the hole. Ray tries to rescue her but also falls and hits his head. He later regains consciousness to find Joanne distressed, as she checks Peri for injuries. Concerned, Ray decides to take Peri to a nearby hospital to treat her broken arm and check for a possible head injury.
Upon arrival, the couple is asked if they would consent to placing Peri on the organ donor registry. A doctor examines Peri, confirming her arm is fractured and recommending a CAT scan to rule out a head injury. Joanne accompanies Peri to the scanning facility in the basement, while Ray waits in the hospital lounge and falls asleep.
Hours later, Ray wakes up and asks the hospital staff about his wife and daughter. To his shock, they claim no records of Joanne or Peri being admitted. Most of the doctors have left, and the remaining nurse insists Ray arrived alone and was treated for a head injury. Frantic, Ray becomes agitated, leading security to restrain and sedate him. He manages to escape and flags down two police officers to investigate the mysterious disappearance of his family.
