Description: Ren McCormack, a young man from Chicago, moves with his mother Ethel to the small town of Bomont in the rural Southwest to live with his aunt and uncle. After attending church, Ren meets Reverend Shaw Moore, his wife Vi, and their daughter Ariel. Ariel, who rebels against her father’s strict religious values, puts herself in dangerous situations, angering her friends and boyfriend, Chuck Cranston.
At school, Ren befriends Willard Hewitt and discovers that the town council has banned dancing and rock music. As Ren grows closer to Ariel, he clashes with Chuck and wins a risky tractor game of chicken. However, Reverend Moore distrusts Ren and forbids Ariel from seeing him once he notices her interest in him.
Determined to show his friends the joy of dance, Ren takes Ariel, Willard, and Rusty to a country bar far from Bomont. There, Willard struggles to dance and gets into a jealous altercation. On the way back, Ariel reveals the tragic story of her older brother, who died in a drunk driving accident after a night of dancing. This incident led Reverend Moore to push for strict anti-dancing and anti-alcohol laws in the town. Inspired, Ren decides to challenge the anti-dancing ordinance so the high school can host a senior prom.
Meanwhile, Ren secretly teaches Willard to dance, while Ariel confronts Chuck, leading to a heated argument that turns physical. Through these struggles, Ren’s determination to bring change to Bomont grows stronger.
