Description: Flora & Ulysses is a 2021 film that follows the story of Flora Buckman, a ten-year-old girl with a love for superheroes and comic books. Flora lives with her parents, George and Phyllis, who are both struggling in their respective careers. George, a failed comic book writer, now works at an office supply store, while Phyllis, a once-award-winning romance novelist, is stuck in a creative rut. Their difficulties have led to a separation.
One day, Flora’s neighbor has an issue with her Ulysses-brand vacuum cleaner, which causes chaos in the yard. A squirrel is accidentally sucked into the machine, but Flora rescues it and names it Ulysses after the vacuum. When Flora’s father visits, he and Phyllis encounter Ulysses. George agrees to take care of the squirrel while spending the day with Flora. Their outing takes them to a donut diner, where Ulysses accidentally causes a commotion. George witnesses the squirrel’s incredible abilities, including flight and super strength. They return to George’s apartment, where they meet Dr. Meescham, a neighbor who confirms Ulysses’ unusual intelligence.
Meanwhile, the diner contacts Miller, an animal control officer with a grudge against squirrels, after Rita, a waitress, becomes convinced that Ulysses is rabid. Miller is determined to capture the squirrel, setting the stage for an adventurous conflict. The film explores themes of family, resilience, and the extraordinary in the ordinary, making it a heartwarming and engaging story.
