**Plot Summary:**
Courtney, a medical student fascinated by the afterlife, convinces her peers, Jamie and Sophia, to join her in a risky experiment. Using defibrillation in an abandoned hospital room, she plans to stop her heart for sixty seconds while monitoring her brain activity. Despite Sophia’s objections, Jamie proceeds, but they struggle to revive Courtney after a minute. Ray, another student, assists in saving her. Meanwhile, Marlo, Ray’s rival, discovers their secret.
After the experiment, Courtney begins recalling forgotten memories, such as her grandmother’s bread recipe. She also experiences heightened intelligence and euphoria, excelling in unexpected ways. Inspired by her transformation, Jamie decides to flatline but has a traumatic near-death encounter with his ex-girlfriend. Marlo and Sophia follow, pushing their flatline durations longer. During Sophia’s session, they barely escape detection and end up at a party.
However, each participant starts facing haunting visions of past mistakes: Courtney is tormented by her sister Tessa, who died in a car crash Courtney caused while distracted by her phone. Marlo is haunted by Cyrus, a man who died due to her medication error, and Sophia by Irina, whose life she ruined out of jealousy by leaking her private photos, which indirectly helped Sophia become valedictorian.
