Noor, a thirteen-year-old boy from a middle-class Kashmiri family, becomes deeply infatuated with Firdaus, the daughter of a wealthy elite family who employs him. Firdaus’s mother, Begum Hazrat Jahaan, who experienced heartbreak in her youth, disapproves of Noor’s feelings due to his lower social status. Despite her objections, Noor and Firdaus grow closer, but Hazrat sends Firdaus abroad for schooling, crushing Noor in the process.
Years later, Noor receives a prestigious art scholarship and moves to Delhi, where he reunites with Firdaus, now engaged to Bilal, a Pakistani diplomat. Noor’s feelings for her remain unchanged, and the two begin a relationship. Hazrat, initially resistant to Noor, starts to realize her mistake but insists Firdaus marry Bilal, forcing her against her will. A flashback reveals Hazrat’s tragic past with her lover Mufti, who abandoned her pregnant and stole her family jewels, explaining her harsh stance on love and marriage.
After traveling to London for an art show, Noor discovers that his scholarship was funded by Moazam, a terrorist he once saved, and not by Hazrat as he believed. Devastated by this revelation and realizing Hazrat has been manipulating him, Noor confronts her. Hazrat denies manipulating him but expresses her unresolved anger toward Mufti, leading Noor to understand she sought redemption by breaking his heart. In a fit of despair, Noor burns his artwork tied to memories of Firdaus.
Another flashback reveals that Hazrat lost her baby and adopted Firdaus. Overwhelmed by her grief and guilt, Hazrat takes her own life. At her funeral, Firdaus discovers a pendant containing a picture of Mufti alongside Hazrat’s, realizing she can never let go of her love for Noor.”
