Description: “Finding Fanny” (2014) is a Hindi film that tells the story of Ferdinand ‘Ferdie’ Pinto (Naseeruddin Shah), who receives a late-night letter and realizes that his true feelings for Stefanie ‘Fanny’ Fernandes (Anjali Patil) were never communicated to her. Determined to set things right, Ferdie seeks the help of Angelina ‘Angie’ Eucharistica (Deepika Padukone), a young widow and his close friend. Angie, whose husband Gabo (Ranveer Singh) died suddenly during their wedding celebration, joins Ferdie on his quest. Along the way, they are accompanied by Angie’s mother-in-law Rosalina ‘Rosie’ Eucharistica (Dimple Kapadia), a peculiar artist Don Pedro Cleto Collaco (Pankaj Kapur), and Angie’s childhood friend Savio Da Gama (Arjun Kapoor), who harbored feelings for her but left town after she married his best friend, Gabo.
During their journey, a series of unexpected events unfold. Ferdie accidentally throws Rosie’s cat out of a window due to his sneezing fit, and to cover up the mishap, he pretends the cat is merely sleeping. The group eventually arrives at Fanny’s old house, only to discover it has been sold to a Russian man named Vladmir Olianov (Mihai Fusu). He informs them that Fanny moved to Tivoli 20 years ago. As they travel, Ferdie reveals to Savio that Rosie’s husband did not die but instead fled to Madagascar with another woman, a truth Rosie concealed to protect her pride.
Nearing Tivoli, Ferdie expresses gratitude to his companions for joining him on this journey. However, it becomes evident that each of them has their own personal reasons for being part of the trip. Savio soon realizes they have taken a wrong turn due to Ferdie’s inability to read maps, leading them to Karnataka instead. Stranded without fuel, the group spends the night in an open field. During this time, Don Pedro attempts to persuade Rosie to be his painting model, while Savio confesses to Angie that he did not build a successful business in Mumbai as everyone believed. Instead, he worked as a waiter for five years and is not as wealthy as he had claimed.
The film weaves together themes of love, loss, and self-discovery as the characters embark on their unique and intertwined journeys.
