Description: The movie “Finch” (2021) tells the story of a robot living on a post-apocalyptic Earth. Built by a dying inventor named Finch, the robot is tasked with protecting Finch’s beloved dog. Through this journey, the robot learns about love, friendship, and the essence of human existence. The film follows Finch, the last surviving human, as he creates an android for companionship and embarks on a cross-country adventure.
The project, initially titled “BIOS,” was announced in 2017 with Tom Hanks starring as Finch. Directed by Miguel Sapochnik and produced by Robert Zemeckis and Kevin Misher, the film is based on a script by Craig Luck and Ivor Powell. Amblin Entertainment acquired the project, with Universal Pictures handling distribution. The screenplay was featured on the 2017 “Black List” of celebrated unproduced scripts.
Caleb Landry Jones joined the cast in 2019, portraying the robot through motion capture, alongside Samira Wiley, Skeet Ulrich, and Laura Harrier. Filming took place in New Mexico from February to May 2019, with locations including Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and White Sands National Monument.
Originally set for an October 2020 release, the film’s premiere was delayed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In May 2021, it was retitled “Finch” and acquired by Apple TV+ for a November 5, 2021, release, while Universal retained home entertainment rights.
