Description: Amanda (Maria Valverde) is being pulled through the woods while a boy’s voice questions her. In her state of delirium, she responds, and the story unfolds through fragmented memories and flashbacks. “I’m seeing you for the first time,” Amanda remarks when she and her young daughter Nina (Guillermina Sorribes Liotta) cross a bridge and spot the boy in a rowboat, idly trailing his hand in the creek. Amanda and Nina are spending the summer in a small town, waiting for their husband and father to join them. The setting is picturesque, with golden fields, dense forests, and refreshing waterways, all under a sweltering sun.
Shortly after arriving, their neighbor Carola (Dolores Fonzi) arrives with two buckets of water, explaining that the local drinking water isn’t safe. Amanda and Carola quickly bond. During a conversation by the pool, Carola shares her past—a nested flashback. The boy Amanda and Nina saw earlier is Carola’s son, David (Emilio Vodanovich). Carola’s husband breeds horses, and years ago, their prized stallion escaped. While searching for the horse with young David, Carola found the animal dying near the woods. David wandered off to play in a puddle, and his mother noticed a dead bird nearby. Soon after, David fell gravely ill with a high fever. Desperate, Carola rowed him upstream to an elderly woman in a green house who performed a “transmigration” ritual—a seemingly mystical act that saved David’s life.
The film weaves together these haunting moments, blending reality and Amanda’s fevered visions into a gripping narrative.
