Description: “Fear Street Part Two: 1978” is a 2021 American slasher film, serving as the sequel to “Fear Street Part One: 1994.” Directed by Leigh Janiak and co-written with Zak Olkewikz, the story is based on R. L. Stine’s book series of the same name. The plot revolves around a group of teenagers at Camp Nightwing who must unite to survive against a masked serial killer.
Produced by Chernin Entertainment, the film’s development began in 2015 at 20th Century Studios. Janiak joined the project in 2017, and filming for the trilogy took place from March to September 2019 in Georgia. Initially intended for a theatrical release in June 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic and Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox led Chernin Entertainment to distribute the film through Netflix, which released it on July 9, 2021.
Set in 1978, Camp Nightwing is divided between campers and counselors from the affluent town of Sunnyvale and those from the struggling town of Shadyside. When terrors from their shared history resurface, they must work together to uncover a dark mystery before it’s too late.
The project was first reported in 2015, with Kyle Killen initially set to write the script. Janiak later rewrote it with Phil Graziadei. The film is part of a trilogy set in different eras, shot consecutively, and released a month apart. Principal filming began in March 2019 in Atlanta and East Point, Georgia, with additional production at Hard Labor Creek State Park in August 2019.
The cast includes Gillian Jacobs, Sadie Sink, Emily Rudd, and McCabe Slye. The final installment of the “Fear Street Trilogy” is scheduled for release on July 16, 2021.
