Description: “Exodus: Gods and Kings” is a 2014 film that tells the story of Moses, a respected general and member of the Egyptian royal family, set in 1300 BC. The narrative begins with Moses and Prince Ramesses preparing to battle the Hittite army at Kadesh. During the fight, Moses saves Ramesses’ life, though this act leaves both men unsettled.
Moses is later sent to Pithom, where he encounters the harsh conditions of Hebrew slaves and meets Joshua, whom he saves from punishment. While there, a man named Nun reveals Moses’ true heritage: he was born to Hebrew parents during a time of persecution and secretly raised by Pharaoh’s daughter. The revelation shocks Moses, but two Hebrew spies overhear the conversation and report it to Viceroy Hegep.
After Seti I’s death, Ramesses ascends to the throne as Ramesses II. Hegep informs Ramesses of Moses’ lineage, but Ramesses is skeptical. Under pressure from Queen Tuya, Ramesses questions Miriam, who denies being Moses’ sister. When threatened, Moses admits his Hebrew identity. Though Tuya demands his execution, Ramesses exiles Moses instead. Before leaving, Moses reunites with his adopted mother and Miriam, who calls him by his birth name, Moshe.
Moses eventually finds refuge in Midian, where he meets Zipporah and her father, Jethro. He becomes a shepherd, marries Zipporah, and starts a family, living a quiet life far from Egypt.
