Storyline:
Evil at the Door combines elements from The Strangers and The Purge franchises, offering a potentially intriguing blend given their box office success. It also incorporates influences from films like Funny Games, Hate Crime, For the Sake of Vicious, and Hosts, promising an intense experience. However, the final result falls short of expectations.
The film begins with John Doe (Bruce Davison) delivering a video message, welcoming viewers to “The Night of the Locusts” and outlining the night’s events. Meanwhile, Daniel (Matt O’Neill) is seen in his luxurious home, pouring himself drinks and arguing with his wife, Jessica (Sunny Doench). Jessica has allowed her younger sister, Liz (Andrea Sweeney Blanco), to stay with them after Liz was assaulted by her abusive boyfriend. However, Liz’s past actions—taking their money and returning to her abuser—add tension to the situation.
As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Liz’s poor choices in men are the least of their worries. The family’s home is being watched by masked intruders, setting the stage for a night of terror.
