Description: In 2047, a distress signal is picked up from the starship *Event Horizon*, which vanished seven years earlier during its first journey to Proxima Centauri. The ship has mysteriously reappeared in a decaying orbit around Neptune. The rescue vessel *Lewis and Clark* is sent to investigate. Its crew, including Captain Miller, Lieutenant Starck, pilot Smith, medical technician Peters, engineer Ensign Justin, doctor D.J., and rescue specialist Cooper, is joined by Dr. William Weir, the ship’s designer. He explains the ship’s experimental gravity drive with a simple demonstration. The distress signal appears to be a series of screams, but D.J. identifies the Latin phrase *”Liberate me”* (“Save me”).
Upon boarding *Event Horizon*, the crew discovers signs of a massacre. While searching for survivors, the ship’s gravity drive activates, briefly pulling Justin into a portal. The resulting shockwave damages the *Lewis and Clark*, forcing the crew to move to *Event Horizon*. Justin emerges in a catatonic state, having experienced something horrifying. He attempts suicide but is stopped by Miller, and the crew places him in stasis.
The team begins experiencing hallucinations tied to their fears and regrets. Miller sees a subordinate he was forced to abandon, Peters sees her son with bloody leg wounds, and Weir encounters an eyeless vision of his late wife, who urges him to join her. They uncover a video log showing *Event Horizon*’s crew engaging in violent and self-destructive behavior after activating the gravity drive. The log ends with the ship’s captain holding his gouged-out eyes while uttering the Latin phrase *”Liberate tutemet ex inferis”* (“Save yourself from hell”).
