Description: “Escape Room” (2019) is an intense thriller that follows six strangers from different walks of life who find themselves trapped in a series of deadly escape rooms. The group includes Zoey, a physics student; Jason, a wealthy day trader; Ben, a stock boy; Mike, a truck driver; Amanda, an Iraq War veteran; and Danny, an escape room enthusiast. After solving a mysterious puzzle cube, they are invited to participate in an escape room challenge with a $10,000 prize.
Upon arriving at an office building, they gather in a waiting room, but no gamemaster appears. When Ben attempts to leave, the door handle falls off, signaling the start of the game. The first room transforms into a giant oven, heating up rapidly. The group manages to escape just before the room is engulfed in flames.
Next, they find themselves in a winter cabin. Ben figures out how to open the door, leading them into a freezing icy room. While searching for a key, Danny tragically falls through the ice and drowns. As they progress, some players notice clues tied to their past traumas, such as a song Ben heard before a near-fatal car crash and a red coat Jason wore during a shipwreck survival.
The survivors then enter an upside-down billiards room with sections of the floor collapsing into a deep shaft. They discover a giant sliding puzzle, and the missing 8-ball becomes the key to their escape. Amanda retrieves the ball but falls to her death while passing it to Jason.
The next challenge is a hospital ward with six beds, each representing a player. A video about a heart surgeon, Dr. Wootan Yu, hints that someone must reach a specific heart rate to escape. Mike has the highest heart rate, but it’s insufficient to meet the requirement. Jason suggests using a defibrillator on Mike, manipulating him by referencing a mining tragedy. However, Jason’s attempt accidentally kills Mike.
As the survivors struggle to outwit the deadly rooms, they must confront their darkest fears and work together to uncover the sinister purpose behind the game.
