Description: In the Netflix thriller *End of the Road*, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges portrays Reggie, a man who finds himself at an isolated motel, staring at a bag of shrink-wrapped cash near a dead body. Ignoring the warnings from films like *No Country for Old Men* and *A Simple Plan*, where easy money often leads to tragedy, Reggie takes the cash. Perhaps he assumes such rules don’t apply in this story, which distinguishes itself with its predominantly Black cast and crew, led by Queen Latifah. The film culminates with her iconic declaration, “I make my own rules.”
Initially, the movie appears to be a tense thriller about desperate actions driven by cartel money. However, it gradually shifts into a more humorous and exaggerated tone, becoming enjoyable in its own way. Who wouldn’t appreciate seeing Queen Latifah break free from restraints to confront a group of neo-Nazis?
Queen Latifah stars as Brenda, a woman pushed to her limits after losing her husband to cancer. She mortgaged their Los Angeles home to cover his treatment, leaving her and her children homeless. Alongside her teenage daughter Kelly (Mychala Faith Lee), young son Cam (Shaun Dixon), and unreliable brother Reggie, Brenda embarks on a road trip to Houston. Their journey is marked by minor roadside conflicts until they stop at an Arizona motel. There, they overhear a gunshot in the adjacent room. Brenda reveals her background as an ER nurse and rushes to help the victim, who turns out to be a thug involved with a criminal named Mr. Cross. When Reggie discovers the stolen money, he’s tempted to take it for himself.
