**Storyline:**
Dave Walsh (Matt Dillon) has a rough start to his day when he gets fired from his dream job and dumped by his fiancée, Sara Goodwin (Christina Applegate). Their engagement party had already been crashed by his best friend, Jack (Steve Zahn), who tries to comfort Dave by saying it’s for the best and that Dave was on the wrong path. To cheer him up, Jack arranges for a woman named Whisper (Jenna Fischer) to visit Dave’s apartment, but she ends up stealing his car instead.
The next day, Dave returns to the bank with a gun hidden in his waistband. He sneaks into his former boss’s office, threatens him with the gun, and considers ending his life. However, after a tense confrontation, Dave changes his mind and pistol-whips his boss instead.
As Dave leaves the office, he discovers the bank is being robbed. In a daydream sequence, he imagines himself heroically taking down the robbers single-handedly. However, in reality, when one of the robbers takes his co-worker Wendy (Andrea Bendewald) hostage, Dave shoots the robber to save her. Despite his efforts, Dave is shot, tackled, and dragged into the robbers’ getaway vehicle as they flee the scene.
