On Christmas Eve, a baby from an orphanage accidentally crawls into Santa’s sack and is taken to the North Pole. Discovered by the elves, he is named Buddy after the brand label on his diaper and is raised by Papa Elf. Despite growing up among the elves and believing he is one, Buddy struggles with his human size and is reassigned to toy testing. Eventually, he learns the truth about his origins: he is human, born to Walter Hobbs and Susan Wells, who passed away shortly after his birth.
Determined to find his father, Buddy travels to New York City, where Walter works as a children’s book publisher. However, Walter, unaware of Buddy’s existence, dismisses him as a holiday messenger. Undeterred, Buddy finds work at a Gimbels department store, where he meets Jovie, a coworker he quickly falls for. Shortly after, Walter reluctantly takes Buddy in after a DNA test confirms their relationship. Buddy now faces the challenge of bonding with his new family while staying true to his elf-like spirit.
