Description: Joe Valencia is a comedian and struggling actor in Los Angeles, best known for his beer commercial series. As a single father to his son Junior, Joe often prioritizes his work over family commitments. His agent, Nick, secures him a sitcom audition, but when the producer discovers Joe is half-Filipino, the role becomes stereotypical. This audition causes Joe to miss a school meeting with Junior’s teachers. To make up for it, Joe decides to take Junior to his family’s Easter Sunday celebration in Daly City.
Upon arrival, Joe and Junior reconnect with Joe’s mother, Susan, his sister Regina, cousin Eugene, aunts Yvonne and Theresa, and uncles Arthur and Manny. During the family gathering, Joe learns that Eugene wasted an investment meant for a taco truck on a “hype truck” selling useless merchandise. To make matters worse, Eugene borrowed money from a gangster named Dev to fund this venture.
Desperate to repay Dev, Joe and Eugene attempt to sell a pair of Manny Pacquiao’s boxing gloves, which Eugene stole from Dev. They approach a wealthy acquaintance, Marvin, but he refuses, fearing Dev’s notorious reputation. Meanwhile, Joe and Eugene take Junior to a mall, where Junior encounters his crush, Tala. However, they soon discover that Tala’s boss is none other than Dev, who chases them out of the mall.
In search of a solution, Joe and Eugene meet with a mysterious figure known as “The Jeweler,” who turns out to be Lou Diamond Phillips. He agrees to provide the money needed to repay Dev later. As the family prepares for Easter dinner, Joe receives a call from Nick, informing him of a last-minute flight back to Los Angeles for a guaranteed sitcom role—if Joe is willing to play into stereotypes. Joe declines, choosing to prioritize his family and integrity over the opportunity.
