Description: The story is set in South Africa, where a young boy named Xan (Alexander Michaeletos) and his father Peter (Campbell Scott) discover an orphaned cheetah cub on the side of the road. After the cub’s mother is killed by lions, Xan convinces his father to let him care for it. They name the cheetah “Duma,” which means cheetah in Swahili. Over time, Duma becomes a beloved member of the family, growing up alongside Xan. As Duma matures, Peter and Xan train him to run by having him chase Peter’s motorcycle. However, as Duma approaches adulthood, Peter insists it’s time to release him into the wild, believing that Duma deserves to live the life he was born for.
Tragically, Peter falls ill and passes away, forcing Xan and his mother (Hope Davis) to move to Johannesburg. Duma accompanies them, but his presence causes chaos in the city. After a series of misadventures, including an incident at Xan’s school, Xan decides to fulfill his father’s plan to return Duma to his natural habitat. He embarks on a daring journey across Botswana, navigating the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, the Okavango Delta, and the Erongo Mountains to ensure Duma’s freedom.
