Description: In 1995, Prem Prakash Tiwari, portrayed by Ayushmann Khurrana, runs a video cassette shop in Haridwar. He is a member of a nationalist organization and regularly attends its morning sessions, which include reciting the national anthem, pledging loyalty, and exercising. The organization emphasizes abstinence, though marriage is permitted. However, members are expected to focus on national service rather than personal life. Prem’s father arranges his marriage to Sandhya, an educated but overweight woman played by Bhumi Pednekar. Despite his lack of interest, Prem agrees to the marriage, partly due to financial considerations.
Prem’s disinterest in the marriage is evident, and he avoids consummating it. Sandhya tries to connect with him, but he remains distant and embarrassed to be seen with her. Their relationship remains tense, though they share moments of intimacy. Prem’s friend Nirmal gets married, and at the wedding, Prem’s jealousy and drunkenness lead to a public confrontation with Sandhya, causing further strain.
The film explores themes of self-acceptance, societal expectations, and the complexities of relationships in a light-hearted yet thoughtful manner.
