Description: In the summer of 1963, Osman decides to block the spring on his land, anticipating a severe drought that would affect the local farmers who depend on its water. Despite his younger brother Hasan’s objections, Osman proceeds, leading to outrage among the farmers who take legal action. The court orders Osman to keep the spring open during the dispute, but he refuses. Hasan occasionally opens the dam out of sympathy for their neighbors, but Osman quickly closes it again.
Meanwhile, Hasan marries a young woman named Bahar. On their wedding night, Osman intrudes and demands Bahar bear many children for the family. Hasan is forced to deal with his brother’s erratic behavior. Tensions escalate when a farmer kills Osman’s dog, prompting the brothers to guard their property at night. One night, two farmers destroy the dam. Osman and Hasan chase the saboteurs, and Osman shoots and kills one of them. He persuades Hasan to take the blame, arguing that his younger age would result in a lighter sentence.
Hasan is sentenced to 24 years, later reduced to 8 due to provocation. During his imprisonment, Osman manipulates Bahar by intercepting Hasan’s letters and claiming he has abandoned her. When Bahar learns of a prisoner’s death in the same facility, she is devastated and returns to her mother. Osman convinces her to come back, explaining that as Hasan’s widow, she owns half of the property.
