Description: The 2012 film *Dredd* is set in a dystopian future where the United States has become a radioactive wasteland known as the Cursed Earth. On the east coast lies Mega-City One, a sprawling and violent metropolis home to 800 million residents and plagued by 17,000 serious crimes daily. The only semblance of order is maintained by the Judges, who serve as judge, jury, and executioner. Judge Dredd is assigned by the Chief Judge to assess Cassandra Anderson, a new recruit with psychic abilities who narrowly failed her aptitude tests.
The story shifts to Peach Trees, a 200-story slum tower controlled by the ruthless drug lord Madeline “Ma-Ma” Madrigal. After executing three rogue drug dealers in a gruesome manner by skinning them alive and throwing them from the top floor, Ma-Ma’s actions draw the attention of the Judges. Dredd and Anderson are dispatched to investigate and discover a drug den during a raid. They arrest a thug named Kay, who is revealed to have carried out the executions. Determined to take him in for questioning, Dredd’s plans are thwarted when Ma-Ma’s forces seize the tower’s security control room and lock down the building, trapping the Judges inside.
Ma-Ma orders her men to kill Dredd and Anderson, forcing the two to battle their way through waves of armed thugs. As they reach the 76th floor, they face a deadly assault from Ma-Ma’s forces, who use rotary cannons to tear through walls and kill innocent residents. Dredd and Anderson manage to breach an outer wall and call for backup. Meanwhile, Ma-Ma sends her henchman Caleb to hunt down the Judges, but Dredd ultimately defeats him by throwing him off the tower. Suspicious of Ma-Ma’s desperation to silence Kay, Dredd interrogates him for crucial information.
