The narrative revolves around Ngan, who develops a deep affection for Hà Lan when they are both six years old. In the city, Hà Lan becomes enamored with Ngan’s wealthy cousin, only to be left heartbroken and pregnant. Despite this, Ngan’s unwavering love remains steadfast. He supports Hà Lan during her pregnancy and later cares for her daughter, Trà Long, when they return to their village. Hà Lan remains in the city as a seamstress, while Ngan takes up a teaching position in the village.
Years pass, and Trà Long, now 18, develops feelings for Ngan, who is in his 30s. Ngan gently rejects her advances, maintaining his role as a supportive figure. In a poignant turn of events, Hà Lan finally realizes her feelings for Ngan but misses the opportunity to confess as he departs the village forever, leaving behind a story of unrequited love and missed chances.
