**Storyline:**
Two thousand years ago, the demon Lord Piccolo arrived on Earth, causing chaos alongside his minion Ōzaru, the Great Ape. Seven mystics created a powerful spell called the Mafuba to seal Piccolo away. However, in the present day, Piccolo breaks free and begins searching for the seven Dragonballs with his ninja accomplice, Mai. Each Dragonball is marked with a star ranging from one to seven. Piccolo kills anyone who stands in his way and acquires the first Dragonball from a peasant woman named Seki, who sacrifices it to save her daughter’s life. Mai seemingly kills Seki afterward.
On his eighteenth birthday, martial artist and high school student Son Goku receives the four-star Dragonball from his grandfather, Gohan. After attending a party hosted by his crush Chi-Chi, Goku returns home to find it destroyed and his grandfather dying due to Piccolo’s failed attempt to steal the Dragonball. Before passing away, Gohan advises Goku to seek out the martial arts master, Master Muten Roshi, who possesses another Dragonball.
During his journey, Goku meets Bulma from the Capsule Corporation, who was studying the five-star Dragonball until it was stolen by Mai. Bulma has invented a Dragonball locator. Goku offers to protect her in exchange for her help in finding Roshi. They locate Roshi in Paozu City, and he joins their quest. Under Roshi’s guidance, Goku trains to harness his ki energy, knowing they must collect all the Dragonballs before the next solar eclipse, when Ōzaru will return and ally with Piccolo.
While searching for the six-star Dragonball, the group is ambushed by the desert bandit Yamcha. Roshi convinces Yamcha to join their mission by promising a share of the profits from Bulma’s invention. Together, they fend off an attack by Mai and successfully secure the next Dragonball.
