**Storyline:**
Firedrake, a young silver dragon, grows tired of hiding in a secluded valley and decides to prove himself as a true dragon to the older generation. Their mission is to find the “Rim of Heaven,” a mystical sanctuary for dragons. Along the way, they meet Ben, an orphan who claims to be a dragon rider. While Firedrake and Ben quickly form a friendship, Sorrel remains skeptical and tries to distance herself from the boy. *Dragon Rider* (also known as *Firedrake the Silver Dragon* on Netflix) is a 2020 German 3D computer-animated fantasy film based on Cornelia Funke’s novel of the same name. Initially set for a theatrical release on August 6, 2020, the film’s launch was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was later released on October 1, 2020, and Netflix acquired global distribution rights, making it available on the platform from September 10, 2021.
Production for the animated adaptation began in June 2017, with German VFX studio RISE leading the animation. The film is a German-Belgian co-production, with animations developed by Rise FX South Studios and Cyborn Studios. Filming took place in Berlin, Munich, and Antwerp.
