Description: Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is a 2022 Japanese animated martial arts fantasy and adventure film directed by Tetsuro Kodama and produced by Toei Animation. Written by Akira Toriyama, the creator of the Dragon Ball series, it is the 21st installment in the Dragon Ball franchise, the fourth film with Toriyama’s direct involvement, the second under the Dragon Ball Super title, and the first to primarily use 3D animation. The story centers on Piccolo and his former student Gohan as they embark on a mission to save the world from the revived Red Ribbon Army.
Originally planned for release in Japan on April 22, 2022, the film was delayed and premiered on June 11 due to a cyberattack on Toei Animation. It received positive reviews, with critics praising its nostalgic elements, fan service, engaging storyline, and the dynamic between Gohan and Piccolo.
The plot follows Magenta, the CEO of Red Pharmaceuticals, who aims to rebuild the Red Ribbon Army, an organization previously led by his father, Commander Red, and destroyed by Goku and his allies. Magenta and his assistant, Staff Officer Carmine, recruit Dr. Hedo, the grandson of Dr. Gero, a mad scientist obsessed with superheroes who was recently released from prison. Despite initial hesitation, Dr. Hedo joins the cause after being misled into believing that Capsule Corp and the Z Fighters are evil.
Meanwhile, Goku and Vegeta are training with Whis on Beerus’ planet, where they are also helping Broly control his powers. On Earth, Piccolo grows frustrated with Gohan for neglecting his potential while focusing on training his daughter, Pan. Piccolo is soon confronted by Gamma 2, a Red Ribbon android, and manages to escape, later infiltrating the Red Ribbon base by disguising himself as one of their soldiers.
