Description: In 1991, a group of thieves steals a rare gem worth $10 million. During the heist, two members betray their leader, Patrick Koster (Sean Bean), and escape with the valuable stone. A decade later, on the eve of Thanksgiving, Dr. Nathan R. Conrad (Michael Douglas), a renowned child psychiatrist in Manhattan, is asked by his friend and former colleague, Dr. Louis Sachs (Oliver Platt), to evaluate a troubled young woman named Elisabeth Burrows (Brittany Murphy) at a state sanatorium.
After being released from prison, Patrick and his gang break into an apartment overlooking Nathan’s home, where he lives with his wife Aggie (Famke Janssen) and daughter Jessie (Skye McCole Bartusiak). Patrick reveals to Nathan that Elisabeth is feigning insanity to evade the gang, who are still searching for the stolen gem. That night, Patrick kidnaps Jessie, demanding that Nathan extract a six-digit number from Elisabeth’s memory.
When Nathan visits Elisabeth, she initially resists but eventually opens up after learning about Jessie’s kidnapping. Meanwhile, Aggie discovers the kidnappers are nearby and sets a trap, killing one of them. Nathan manages to take Elisabeth out of the sanatorium, and she begins recalling details about the gang. It is revealed that her father was part of the heist a decade earlier and betrayed the group by taking the stolen gem.
The story unfolds as Nathan races against time to save his daughter and uncover the truth behind the gang’s dangerous pursuit.
