Description: Briggs, a U.S. Army Ranger, is given the task of transporting Lulu, a Belgian Malinois military dog, from Joint Base Lewis–McChord in Washington to Nogales, Arizona. Their journey is timed to ensure Lulu attends her handler’s funeral. As they travel along the Pacific Coast, Briggs confronts his struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and his challenges in forming emotional connections.
Despite his injuries, Briggs (played by Channing Tatum) is determined to return to active duty in the Rangers. However, his doctor warns him of permanent impairments. Service provides him with structure, purpose, and a sense of belonging, allowing him to avoid confronting his deeper emotional struggles. To rejoin the Rangers, Briggs needs approval from an officer, who agrees to grant it on one condition: Briggs must deliver Lulu to the funeral of a fellow veteran.
Lulu, once a heroic military dog, is now severely traumatized from her time in the war zone. She has injured three people, been deemed unrehabilitatable, and is set to be euthanized after the funeral. Reluctantly, Briggs agrees to the task, though he is apprehensive about transporting a highly unstable dog. He is warned to keep Lulu away from people and animals during the journey.
The mission becomes a turning point for Briggs as he navigates the challenges of the trip while grappling with his own emotional scars. Completing the task without incident could secure his return to the Rangers, but along the way, both he and Lulu find a path toward healing and connection.
