Description: Set against the backdrop of World War I, the Russian Revolution of 1917, and the Russian Civil War, *Doctor Zhivago* tells a poignant story of love and loss. The narrative begins in the late 1940s or early 1950s, where KGB Lieutenant General Yevgraf Andreyevich Zhivago searches for the daughter of his half-brother, Doctor Yuri Andreyevich Zhivago, and Larissa “Lara” Antipova. Yevgraf believes a young woman named Tanya Komarova might be his niece and recounts the tale of her father’s life.
After the death of his mother, young Yuri Zhivago is taken in by the Gromeko family in Moscow. By 1913, Yuri, now a doctor with a poet’s soul, reunites with Tonya, the Gromekos’ daughter, returning from her studies in Paris. The two quickly become engaged. Meanwhile, Lara, a 17-year-old girl, falls prey to Victor Komarovsky, her mother’s older and manipulative lover. He grooms and seduces her, leaving her vulnerable.
During a violent protest, Lara’s idealistic friend Pasha Antipov is injured. He seeks refuge with Lara, who tends to his wounds and hides a gun he acquired during the chaos. When Lara’s mother learns of her daughter’s affair with Komarovsky, she attempts suicide. Komarovsky summons a doctor, accompanied by Yuri, to intervene. Despite Komarovsky’s attempts to dissuade Lara from marrying Pasha, she refuses, leading to a traumatic confrontation. In a moment of desperation, Lara shoots Komarovsky, wounding him. He, however, insists no charges be brought against her.
Devastated by Lara’s past but still in love, Pasha marries her, and they eventually have a daughter named Katya. The story of *Doctor Zhivago* unfolds as a deeply emotional tale of personal struggle, love, and the impact of historical upheaval on individual lives.
