Description: “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” released in 2022, is an American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Doctor Strange. Plans for a sequel began in October 2016, with Scott Derrickson, director of the first film, set to return. By December 2018, Benedict Cumberbatch was confirmed to reprise his role. The film’s title and Olsen’s involvement were announced in July 2019, with Jade Halley Bartlett hired as the writer in October. However, Derrickson stepped down as director in January 2020 due to creative differences, leading to the involvement of Waldron and Raimi.
Filming started in November 2020 in London but was halted in January 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production resumed in March 2021 and concluded in mid-April, with additional shooting in Surrey and Los Angeles. The film premiered at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on May 2, 2022, and was released in the United States on May 6 as part of MCU’s Phase Four.
Critics generally praised the film for Raimi’s direction, cinematography, visual effects, musical score, action sequences, emotional depth, and the performances of Cumberbatch and Olsen. However, some criticism was directed at the film’s writing and pacing.
The movie is available in Blu-ray IMAX versions, offering enhanced viewing quality for audiences.
