The story begins in early 1858 Texas, where Ace and Dicky Speck are transporting a group of enslaved individuals, including Django, who has been separated from his wife Broomhilda von Shaft. Django’s wife, a house slave fluent in German and English, was sold off.
Dr. King Schultz, a bounty hunter and former dentist, intercepts the group to purchase Django for his knowledge of the Brittle brothers, wanted outlaws. When Ace threatens Schultz, Schultz kills him and incapacitates Dicky. Schultz frees Django, offering him $75 and his freedom in exchange for help tracking the Brittles. The newly liberated slaves kill Dicky and head north to freedom.
Django and Schultz track down and kill the Brittle brothers at a Tennessee plantation owned by Spencer “Big Daddy” Bennett. Later, Schultz takes Django under his wing as an apprentice, and they set out to rescue Broomhilda. After collecting bounties, they discover Broomhilda is owned by Calvin J. Candie, the ruthless owner of the Candyland plantation, where enslaved individuals are forced into deadly fights.
Schultz and Django devise a plan to acquire Broomhilda by offering to purchase one of Candie’s fighters, using it as a pretext to negotiate her release. They meet Candie at his club and are invited to his plantation to finalize the deal. The story unfolds with their daring mission to free Broomhilda amidst the brutal realities of slavery and exploitation.
