Description: Disenchanted is a 2022 movie that follows the story of Giselle (Amy Adams), Robert (Patrick Dempsey), and Morgan (Gabriella Baldacchino) as they grow weary of the chaos of New York City. Giselle, in particular, longs to recapture the “happily ever after” feeling, prompting the family to move to the suburban town of Monroeville. However, their new life brings its own set of challenges. Robert’s job in New York becomes inconvenient, Morgan struggles to adjust to a new school, and even Giselle finds herself lost in the monotony of everyday life. Matters worsen when an ill-advised wish, a harsh accusation of being a “stepmother,” and the complications of magic disrupt their lives.
Amy Adams shines as the brightest star in this film. While the story allows Morgan to emerge as her own hero, it remains centered on Giselle’s journey. Adams’ portrayal of her character slipping into the role of a wicked stepmother is both entertaining and masterfully balanced, contrasting perfectly with the more subdued performances of her co-stars. The film also features the charming transformation of Monroeville into a fairytale world, complete with quirky characters like Patrick Dempsey as a flamboyant prince.
The costumes are another standout element of the movie. Giselle and her antagonistic counterpart Malvina (Maya Rudolph) are dressed in stunning outfits, adding to the visual appeal. The film also includes delightful nods to Disney classics, such as a trio of characters inspired by the fairies from *Sleeping Beauty*, who undergo their own magical transformations.
While the visuals are captivating, the heart of *Disenchanted* lies in its storytelling. The film offers a contemporary take on fairytales, blending humor, magic, and heartfelt moments into a unique and enchanting experience.
