Description: MI6 agent James Bond infiltrates a North Korean military base where Colonel Tan-Sun Moon is illegally trading weapons for African conflict diamonds. After Moon’s assistant Zao learns Bond’s true identity from an unknown source, Moon attempts to kill him, leading to a hovercraft chase that results in Moon’s apparent death. Bond survives but is captured by North Korean soldiers and imprisoned by Moon’s father, General Moon.
After enduring fourteen months of captivity and torture by the Korean People’s Army, Bond is exchanged for Zao in a prisoner swap. He is sedated and taken to meet M, who suspends his status as a 00 Agent, suspecting he leaked information under duress. Convinced he was betrayed by a double agent within the British government, Bond escapes MI6 custody and travels to Hong Kong, where he discovers Zao is in Cuba.
In Havana, Bond encounters NSA agent Jinx Johnson and follows her to a gene therapy clinic, where Zao is receiving DNA restructuring. Bond confronts Zao, who escapes but leaves behind a pendant that leads Bond to a cache of conflict diamonds linked to British billionaire Gustav Graves. Bond learns that Graves emerged a year earlier after discovering diamonds in Iceland, gaining immense wealth and fame.
In London, Bond meets Graves and his assistant Miranda Frost, an undercover MI6 agent. After a fencing match, Graves invites Bond to Iceland for a scientific demonstration. Meanwhile, M informs Bond of MI6’s suspicions about Graves and reinstates his Double-0 status, offering support for the investigation.
