**Plot Summary:**
The story begins in 2010 during a firefight in a palm grove in Iraq’s Diyala Province. Three Marines stumble upon a mysterious cavern, leading to a terrifying encounter.
Fast forward to 2013 in The Bronx, NYPD Special Operations Sergeant Ralph Sarchie investigates the death of an infant in an alley. Alongside his partner, Butler, they respond to a domestic disturbance call involving a former Marine, Jimmy Tratner, who has assaulted his wife. Jimmy resists arrest, brandishing a knife before fleeing, but Sarchie manages to apprehend him. The officers suspect Jimmy is either mentally unstable or under the influence of drugs.
Later, Sarchie and Butler are called to the Bronx Zoo, where a woman has thrown her child into the lion enclosure’s moat. They find the woman in the lemur pen, frantically scraping the ground and reciting lyrics from “Break On Through (To the Other Side).” Sarchie encounters a commercial painter inside the lion enclosure but is attacked by the lions and narrowly escapes.
When the deranged woman, Jane Crenna, is taken to a mental health facility, Jesuit priest Mendoza intervenes at her family’s request. Another domestic disturbance report comes in—a family of three has been confining themselves to their living room after experiencing inexplicable phenomena. In one area of their home, light bulbs instantly burn out, and candles refuse to stay lit.
The film weaves a chilling tale of supernatural forces and psychological turmoil.
