The storyline revolves around the Barden Bellas, a championship-winning a cappella group led by Beca Mitchell and Chloe Beale. Three years after their initial victory, the Bellas have secured the ICCA National Championship title for three consecutive years. However, their reputation is tarnished by a scandal known as “Muffgate,” when member Fat Amy accidentally exposes herself during a performance for President Barack Obama. This incident results in their suspension from the ICCA competitions, though their past titles remain intact.
Beca negotiates a deal to reinstate the group if they win the A Cappella World Championship. Meanwhile, freshman Emily Junk, inspired by her mother’s legacy, aspires to join the Bellas. She impresses the group by performing her original song, “Flashlight,” and becomes a member.
The Bellas face stiff competition from Das Sound Machine (DSM), a formidable German group, as well as other rivals like the Treblemakers and the Tone Hangers. Amidst the drama, Beca keeps her internship at a recording studio a secret, while Fat Amy navigates her complicated relationship with former Treblemaker leader Bumper Allen.
The film blends humor, music, and rivalry as the Bellas strive to reclaim their standing in the a cappella world.
